ONE of Britain's most outspoken MPs has said the Boris Johnson is "terrified" of her, as she appeared in Oswestry to promote her new book.

Birmingham and Yardley Labour MP, Jess Phillips, gave a talk at The Holroyd Community Theatre on Monday, April 4 to promote her book, "The Life of an MP".

Ms Phillips spoke about growing up in a politicised family and about "wanting to be PM" when she was young.

She said: "It was my childhood ambition.

Ms Phillips said the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, is "terrified" of her and spoke about how former PM, David Cameron, "hated" her.

She added: "He (Boris Johnson) is terrified of me, every time I walk towards him.

"David Cameron absolutely hated me.

"To me you are the MP for Whitney or Uxbridge even if you are the PM."

Ms Phillips spoke about abuse MPs receive on social media and about how some people believe what they read on the Internet.

She said: "It is par for the course.

"The thing that frightens me is other people believing dangerous things they see on the internet."

Ms Phillips spoke about the belief among some that politics "changes nothing" and about what could be done to get people from all backgrounds in politics.

She said: "We need a concerted effort and you need people to believe that politics changes things.

"For about the past 20 years we have been told they are all the same.

"The expenses scandal didn't help, politicians don't help themselves because they lie all the time.

"And I don't mean lie like Boris Johnson lies.

"I mean they misrepresent what is possible and people feel exploited.

"The most dangerous thing you can do is to believe you can do nothing.

"Don't give up, keep on writing, be a massive pain in the a***."

Ms Phillips had positive words to say about the MP for North Shropshire, Helen Morgan.

She said: "I have met your MP.

"My first impressions are the point where I needed her to vote the right way she did.

"Fundamentally, she seems like a decent woman who cares about your place and that is the most important thing."

The event was hosted by Booka Bookshop.

Tim Morris said: "It was a real privilege to host an event with the brilliant Jess Phillips last night.

"Our thanks to Jess, to Caroline Lang for asking the Holroyd Community Theatre for hosting.

"Finally, thanks to everyone who came along.

"Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did."
