PLANS for celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in Ellesmere are well under away.
The milestone will be celebrated in June this year after the queen became the first British monarch to sit on the throne for 70 years.
At Ellesmere Town Council's full town council meeting on Monday, February 7, town clerk Joanne Butterworth told councillors that some ideas on how to celebrate had been put forward.
She said: "The Jubilee Working Group is still working out the finer details on ideas for celebrations, with a beacon being lit at St Mary’s just one idea.
"There may be a party in the park, with an emphasis on a community idea.
"Ideas will be served into a meeting for ideas at the committee’s next meeting in February."
Meanwhile, at the meeting, it was confirmed that the Welcome Back fund ideas will be managed by Shropshire Council.
Many ideas from Ellesmere Town Council and the Chamber of Commerce have led to a project involving the installation of disabled friendly benches on the promenade in Cross Street.
The meeting also heard that money from the fund will be put towards the repair of public toilets, including installing a vandal-proof door.
