OVERNIGHT roadworks to improve drainage on the Gobowen bypass will begin on Monday (February 14) night.

It is hoped the work between the Five Crosses (Orthopaedic) and Gledrid roundabouts will see an end to heavy flooding which has become commonplace following heavy rainfall.

The work, which was confirmed last week, will take place between 8pm and 5am and is expected to be completed by early March.

It is being carried out by contractor Kier on behalf of National Highways.

A spokesperson for Shropshire Council said: ""To complete the work, we may be required to clear a small amount of vegetation, including brambles, blackthorn and trees.

"The completed work will reduce the need for future maintenance and ensure the drainage system is working as efficiently as possible.

"It will also mitigate any localised flooding and standing water on the carriageway."
