A Wrexham grandfather is looking to visit Oswestry to promote his new children’s book, having followed his passion and deciding to get his novel published.
Des Jones, an 82 year-old grandfather from Pentre, near Wrexham, is the author of the children’s book, The Flight of The Dragonauts.
The book’s theme revolves around child characters, dragons and exciting adventures.
Becoming a grandfather inspired Des to put his creativity to practise and get his idea written and published.
Des said: “It started off as tale I invented for my own kids and with the advent of grandchildren it re-awakened the whole idea and it developed into a book which has been published.
“This is the first kids book I’ve written and obviously I think this has planted a gem of an idea to follow it up with another one.”
In addition to writing the book, Des has also drawn the book illustrations.
Des trialled the book in a local school and with some local families from which he received positive feedback.
With positive feedback he took the decision to publish the book.
When asked about the importance and promotion of reading novels, Des said: “I think it’s an introduction into the world of novels.
“Children have got to be able to expand their own minds and that’s found in pages rather than just by using your fingers on a keypad. They soon find out how the story would evolve rather than just presenting snapshots.”
