THERE is no agreement between two political parties as they bid to beat the Conservative Party in Thursday's North Shropshire by-election.
A spokesperson for the Labour Party categorically denied that a "gentleman's agreement" had been struck with the Liberal Democrats for the former to dial back campaigning as both parties battle it out to cause an upset in the Tory safe-seat.
It comes as the Liberal Democrat Party has repeatedly stated its belief that it is the only party that can unseat the Conservatives.
A Labour spokesman said: “You had Angela Rayner there yesterday, you’ve got two members of the shadow cabinet there, at least, today that I’ve already seen on social media are there, they’re campaigning.
“We’ve got a brilliant local candidate in Ben Wood and we’ve run a focused campaign there, and I think what’s clear is that Boris Johnson’s incompetence and broken promises is what’s coming up repeatedly on the doorstep.”
Asked if he was able to deny there had been a “gentleman’s agreement” between Labour and the Lib Dems, he said: “Yes, I am.”
Asked how confident the party was of its chance, he added: “There’s only 24 hours to wait, so let’s wait and see what the result is.”
Voters in North Shropshire are set to go to the polls in just a few hours times with polling stations opening their doors at 7am on Thursday morning.
Don't forget, the Oswestry Advertizer will be running a live blog throughout polling day and the count tomorrow.
