HERE’S why we are making changes to scenic site
we wanted to take the opportunity to clarify why we are making changes to Lake Vyrnwy and the benefits it will bring to this much loved and beautiful site.
At Hafren Dyfrdwy we are absolutely committed to the customers we serve, investing in the region and protecting the environment so that nature can thrive.
That’s why we’re making significant improvements which will improve the visitor experience for everyone who visits. We’re spending £1 million to improve the car parking facilities at Lake Vyrnwy – work started last week and is due to take four months to complete.
As part of the plans, we will extend the main car park at the side of the dam, resurface a nearby road and install electric vehicle charging points. Parking charges will be introduced at the main car park so that we can continue to make further improvements to the beautiful site and it will also help reduce the impact of visitors on the local community during peak times.
On top of this investment, in early November we announced that we were partnering with RSPB Wales to restore huge areas of peatland at Lake Vyrnwy, which will help to improve our water quality and lock-in carbon in the area, protecting our communities and environment.
We’ve also recently awarded grants totalling almost £10,000 to two Powys-based projects through our Community Fund.
Dolydd Gobaith is a project focused on increasing biodiversity by managing a variety of wildlife areas and habitats offering learning opportunities for volunteers and schools. With this funding they will be able to provide visitors better facilities to support the wellbeing of everyone who visits and enable more of the community to get involved in their activities.
The fund has also provided Clywedog Sailing Club with a public access defibrillator outside their clubhouse, which will make a huge difference in safety and reassurance for all who visit the community project and could be potentially lifesaving in an emergency situation.
At Hafren Dyfrdwy, we have the lowest customer bills in the UK and we’ll continue investing in sites such as Lake Vyrnwy so that communities and visitors can enjoy it for years to come.
We’ll be doing everything we can to minimise the disruption caused by these improvements and we aim to complete the work as soon as possible. We’d like to thank your readers for their patience and understanding.
James Jesic,
Hafren Dyfrdwy managing director
