One of the biggest crowds in many years turned out in brilliant sunshine for Ellesmere’s traditional Remembrance Sunday Parade and church service.
Representing The Queen, Deputy Lieutenant of Shropshire Mrs Diana Flint and her husband led the march to the town’s war memorial for a wreath-laying ceremony and two minutes’ silence in the grounds of St Mary’s Parish Church.
They were accompanied by the mayor, members of the town council, the local branch of the Royal British Legion and a dozen other organisations. The church service was conducted by the vicar, the Rev. Pat Hawkins.
Legion branch chairman Bob McBride said: “Last year’s Remembrance ceremony had to be severely curtailed because of the pandemic and it was really heartening and somewhat surprising to see so many people taking part this time, especially those from youth organisations, including the Guides, Scouts, Cubs, Brownies, and Army Cadets.”
