A VOLUNTEER group responsible for the churchyard at Chirk’s St Mary’s Church have been recognised with an award for their work.
The St Mary’s Churchyard Volunteer Group attained an Outstanding Award certificate from the It’s Your Neighbourhood competition as part of Wales in Bloom.
Peter Barton Price, assessor for Wales in Bloom, said the grounds at the church are a true testament to the group’s hard work.
Mr Price was particularly impressed by the group’s dedication to preserving, protecting and enhancing natural and historic environment.
He also praised the successful propagation of a Golden Yew from a cutting which had been successfully achieved by one of the volunteers, Len.
The children’s area was also praised and Mr Price was impressed to see that the garden had gained its bee-friendly status.
