JUST how old is Oswestry's Ye Old Vaults?
Certainly the life of the three story Church Street building as a pub began by the late 15th century and remodelled in the late 18th century when the timber frame was concealed by rendered brick facade, slate roof and internal red brick end stacks.
A round arched passageway and flanking entrance was added in the 20th century and is classed as a Grade II listed building.
The pub was reopened by Offas Dyke Brewery in November 2010 and is now a brewery tenancy.
There's a two roomed internal layout which has been tastefully refurbished and provided with comfortable furniture to give a modern relaxed sort of feel.
On a Friday and Saturday night there is a transformation with live music provided for locals.
Since 2018 the pub has been in the hands of Paul Nurse and Lorraine Powell.
Lorraine said: "We pride ourselves on a very busy venue with live music and DJ,s at the weekends.
"We are a town centre pub with a large beer garden. We also have a covered area with nine heat lamps for the British weather.
"Inside is a traditional pub, with a pool room and jukebox in the front room, a large lounge area where we usually serve food.
"We had a great pool team before the Covid restrictions and hopefully by the end of July we will be able to get back to normal."
Music lovers will also hope restrictions will further ease to allow the Gigfest to be held this year.
Lorraine added: "We have the music weekend Gigfest in the summer when we showcase about 50 groups over the weekend, we even had the choir from Oswestry on the Sunday, as we have lots of space outside."
The pub also prides itself on playing an active part in the community having won a gold award for its display of hanging baskets in the past two years.
