ELLESMERE Town Council will consult with Trees for Shropshire on a project to plant trees for the Queen's Jubilee.
The Queen’s Green Canopy is an initiative created to mark Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
It is inviting people from across the United Kingdom to 'Plant a Tree for the Jubilee'.
At July’s meeting, town councillors discussed the initiative and how best to support it.
Following these discussions, Councillor Anne Wignall again brought forward ideas she would like to see implemented to support the initiative.
Speaking at July's meeting, Cllr Wignall suggested the council get in touch with community groups to see if they would like to get involved.
She said: "I think we agreed as a council to plant one in the new nature reserve next year.
"The plan is to write either a letter or an email to various key groups to ask if they would join Ellesmere's Queen’s Green Canopy.
"It would be good as a town council to be seen to be leading on this.
"This would include local schools, youth groups, sports clubs and community groups such as Men in Sheds, Rotary and so on.
"Other businesses are possible, and beyond that the key land owners."
Councillors also spoke about the conservation group Trees for Shropshire and if they should also be consulted.
It was agreed to approach Trees for Shropshire and also to form a working group for the project.
