A ROTARY club is to make a donation of £1,000 towards the rebuilding of the therapy pool at an Oswestry-based children’s hospice.
Following a plea for funding to rebuild the facility at Hope House Children’s Hospice, members of Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club had no hesitation in approving the donation.
Chairman of the club’s community and vocational committee, John Yeomans, said the club is glad to support a charity which offers vital support for families that need it.
He said: "The members of the Rotary Club of Shrewsbury Severn are very aware of the vital support given by Hope House Children's Hospice and the funding challenges faced during the ongoing pandemic.
“We are delighted to be able to offer our support towards the cost of the refurbishment of the hospices therapy pool."
Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith Children’s Hospices fundraiser, Cat Dowdeswell, insists the hospice is grateful for the vital funds.
She said: “Rotary donations and relationships are very important to us. Around 80 per cent of the cost of providing essential care to our children and families is met by fundraising.
“Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club has very kindly supported Hope House in the past and we are grateful for their latest donation of £1,000 towards the rebuild of the therapy pool.
“The therapy pool is now 25 years old and has not had any significant investment since it was installed.
“We are working hard to raise the significant funds to rebuild this key facility. It is no longer an aspiration – we must deliver this for our children.”
She added: “When you see a child free from muscle spasms and pain, smile and look so relaxed in the water, you know just how much of a difference is being made.”
