CHIRK Town FC have claimed silverware in their first season after they were crowned champions of the North East Wales Football League Premier Division.
The decision was confirmed on Thursday to decide the league with a system of an average number of points from games played.
Before games were stopped because of COVID-19, Chirk were second with just one point between them and league leaders Brymbo Victoria, while Town still had a game in hand.
A spokesman for Chirk Town posted on the club’s Facebook page to say it is not the way they would have liked to win the league, and insists the club is looking forward to returning to action next season.
“Today we have been crowned champions, not the way we would have liked, would rather it be on the pitch all together,” they said.
“[It has] been a tough old season and the lads have been through a lot, we have stuck by one another and completed the job we started, it’s important we don’t stand still and prepare for the challenge next season."
