THE long-awaited opening of a brand-new Oswestry superstore is nearly upon us.
Tomorrow, the town’s new Morrisons in Shrewsbury Road, will open to the public, and it boasts a whole host of new features that its predecessor did not have.
The new store will include Morrisons’ famous ‘Market Street’, a section dedicated to fresh food from in-store bakers, butchers and fishmongers, and deli and hot food counters.
Market Street manager Tom Shield, is delighted that the day is nearly here and said that the store will provide everything you could need under one roof.
“We’ve got our scratch bakery – this means all our bread, rolls and cream cakes will be made from scratch,” said Tom.
“There’s also our pizza counter, where you can create your own pizza and it can also be cooked by us to take away.
“We’ve got a new cafe, so you can come along and grab a coffee or food without having to do a shop.
“You will find everything you need under one roof.”
Tom is hoping to welcome new and old customers alike to the store’s official opening tomorrow.
“Come along for the opening to see what the store has to offer,” he added.
“There will be new staff in their new roles across the store who will be on hand to help people find their way around. Thank you all for your continued support and hope you all enjoy it.”
Mayor Councillor John Price welcomed the new superstore on what was a disused area of land for a number of years, and wished staff well on its opening.
“It looks splendid,” said Cllr Price.
“It’s cleared up an eyesore after such a long period of time.
“I hope the store is a great success for them after employing so many people in the area.
“And it’s also nice to know that after the cutting of some trees that they have planted so many more trees back and they appear to be holding conservation close to their hearts.”
“We’ve planted trees all the way around which we felt was important,” added Tom.
The new superstore will also feature free car parking, electric vehicle charging points and a hand car wash.
Opening hours will be 7am until 10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
