A FORMER Portsmouth and Hull City player has taken on the role as manager of a north Shropshire club.
Paul Moore has been named the new manager of St Martins FC who are set to play in the North West Counties Football League First Division South again next season.
His appointment comes after the departure of Dan Stevens, who lead the side to an 11th place finish and the Shropshire Cup final.
Moore has coached previously at Macclesfield Town and Manchester City, before he took on managerial roles at Congleton, Warrington and Colwyn Bay among other clubs.
The ex-professional had his playing career cut short after injury, but went on to get his UEFA A License.
Speaking to the club's website after his appointment, Moore said: “I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to manage at St Martins FC.
"The club impressed me with the professional approach and after meeting with the club officials it is evident that they want to move the club in the right direction at the right kind of pace.
"St Martins is a new chapter and I believe with my experience and commitment we can make positives strides in the up and coming season.
"I am really looking forward to meeting the players and getting started.”
Moore will lead the side through pre-season training and friendly fixtures, before the season kicks off in August.
St Martins' general manager Craig Rogers said: "Paul impressed the interviewing panel from the moment he walked in.
"You could see he had a real passion for football but was very grounded and believed in the right values and cultures around a club.
"To have a manager of Paul’s calibre wanting to work with us isn’t an opportunity we wanted to let us pass by.
"We are excited to get working together and hope to continue our progress as a club moving forward."
St Martins' pre-season fixtures have been announced – the side are set to face Corwen FC, Lower Breck FC, Berriew FC, Haughmond FC and Brymbo FC.
