AN AUTHOR who is garnering much critical praise is set to visit Oswestry to give readers an insight into latest work.

Christy Lefteri will be at Booka Bookshop in Church Street at 7.30pm on Thursday, May 9, to talk about The Beekeper of Aleppo.

The novel came about after London-born Christy decided to venture from the serenity of a beach in Cyprus to volunteer at a mother and children centre in Athens, Greece, where she heard about the experiences of people who had been in refugee camps in war-torn Syria.

Main characters Nuri, a beekeeper, and his artist wife, Afra, are forced to flee the Syrian city of Aleppo when all they care for is destroyed by war,

They must embark on a perilous journey through Turkey and Greece towards an uncertain future in Britain.

On their journey, Nuri and Afra must confront great dangers and he pain of their own unspeakable loss.

Doors open at 7pm and there will also be a book signing.
