North West Counties Football League Division One South
Stone Old Alleynians 0
FC Oswestry Town 0
For the first time in 11 games FC Oswestry Town were unable to find the net as they drew away at Stone Old Alleynians.
The hosts came into the game as one of the side’s highest scoring teams having scored 80 league goals this campaign, bettered only by first-placed Rylands.
A solid defensive display by Town was able to thwart their hosts, however they struggled themselves at the other end of the pitch after an equally hearty defensive display kept the sides even.
Both teams created few chances early in the game, with Alleynians perhaps looking more likely to create an all-important chance.
A handful of half-chances fell for Alleynians as the half progressed, but a solid defence and a handful of good saves by debutant Mason Springthorpe meant the sides went into the break with the score at 0-0.
The game resumed in similar fashion after the break with neither side able to show a cutting edge in the final third.
A notable chance fell for Alleynians when they broke down the left and had a driven shot parried away by Springthorpe.
Tireless effort from the attackers on both teams wasn’t to be enough as the game drew to a close with very few chances and ended goalless.
FC Oswestry Town remain sixth on 55 points - nine behind first place. They next play away at Stone Dominoes on Saturday, March 16.
