POLICE have arrested two people on suspicion of firearms offences after a raid in the town centre on Thursday.
Armed police blocked Oswald Road to traffic for a short this afternoon to carry out investigations at block of flats.
Traffic was being diverted via Black Gate Street.
Barbara Clark, from Walsall, was one of the many shoppers who witnessed the raid.
"I just heard them come and then there was shouting," she said
"They swooped in."
Qube arts centre, which is located next door, was advised to lock its doors during the operation.
Trudy Barberis, of Oswestry, said that she was anxious because her husband John Hird was locked in the building.
"I've no idea what's happening. He had been trying to get a wheelchair because I have difficulty walking and he didn't come back," she said
"So I walked back and then I saw this performance."
Graham Jones, of Ruabon, said: "It's quite a scary sight when armed bobbies come around."
The road was cleared by around 1.15pm.
A West Mercia Police spokesman said that armed officers were called to Oswestrytown centre at 12.40pm to conduct a firearms investigation.
The spokesman added that two people had been arrested.
