Dumping waste at recycling points across Shropshire may put them at risk of closure, according to one councillor.
Councillor Joyce Barrow said members of the public had abandoned mattresses and furniture at the ‘Bring Bank’ on Station Road in Oswestry, opposite the Morrisons supermarket.
The issue has led to Shropshire Council reviewing it.
She said it is imperative that people only recycle what is permitted at the sites.
Cllr Barrow, the portfolio holder for communities, waste and regulatory services, continued: “Discussions are ongoing about the Morrisons site, but people are dumping cardboard there that cannot be recycled from there, leaving stuff at the side at the side of the bins, we’ve even found mattresses and furniture there.
“It is being looked into to try to find the best way to deal with it.”
The issues of the Morrisons site includes recycling banks for cartons, metal packaging, mixed glass, mixed paper, clothes and small appliances.
Cllr Barrow said she would urged people to act responsibly or risk losing the site altogether.
She continued: “I would urge people to use the banks correctly.
“I must stress no decision has been made about removing the recycling point, but the whole issue is being looked at.”
