This Saturday (May 12) Gobowen Station is opening up its building for a pop-up shops day.
Since successfully purchasing the station buildings at Gobowen through a Community Right to Bid last year, Oswestry Station Building Trust working with the local community group GAIP – Gobowen Area Improvement Group have successfully applied for listed building consent and change of use for the building on platform two.
The empty unit on platform two will undergo a refurbishment ready for letting in the future but organisers have decided to open it up for the day and small, local, home based businesses have been encouraged to sign up to the free pop up shop opportunity.
A children's tombola is also being run with some great prizes. Offered too will be an array of plants being sold by the Derwen college. A chance also to see the development plans for a Community Rail service in the future.
Open from 10am to 4pm the unit will see stalls promoting and selling a wide range of goods in the building. Severn Dee Travel who operate the booking office will remain open too during this period and the café run by the Derwen college situated in the waiting room will be serving its usually hot coffee and home made cakes and sandwiches.
The event is being arranged in conjunction with the Cambrian Heritage Railway and their official opening of the Oswestry Station signal box and Gobowen Church Hall which is reopening after refurbishment. The Hall is also staging the Schools artwork competition that is being sponsored by GAIP and the Chester Shrewsbury Rail Partnership.
Linking the venues is a vintage bus which runs from 10.30am from Gobowen station.
All are very welcome and a great opportunity to support local entrepreneurs.
