A woman from Oswestry will be taking on a charity walk across Iceland to raise awareness of mental health.
Kate MacDonald will be trekking across different terrains throughout the country in August to raise money and awareness of mental health charity MIND.
The challenge will see Kate, along with 24 other fundraisers, trek 58km over three days across volcanoes, waterfalls, lava fields and fjords and be expected to camp each night in a variety of conditions.
"This is a really tough challenge, both mentally and physically" said Kate.
"But I wanted to do it to raise awareness of mental health and the support that is available. Plus, why not experience Iceland in a different way!
"I enjoy walking, and it helps me with my mental health. I get quite a lot of anxiety so I have found that walking relieves that.
"Mental health can be a real barrier to many things, and this is one of the best ways in which I can raise awareness."
The 30-year-old said around 300 million people suffer with mental health all over the world, and the majority of them are hidden issues that nobody can see.
"I've also taken on this challenge to support the voluntary sector and all they do to help people with mental health issues. They have a huge lack of support, and this is a real campaign for third sector funding," said Kate.
The walker, who now lives in Shrewsbury, has to raise £3,195 which is the minimum amount required to take part in the challenge.
"My main aim is to raise £2,500 by the end of May," continued Kate.
"I've been holding bake sales at work to raise money, and I'm performing with Oswestry Ladies Choir on Saturday April 21, so my proceeds from that will go towards my fundraising."
As well as fitting in rehearsals for her choir performance, Kate has also been busy directing Oswestry Musical Theatre Company's production of 'Into The Woods' which took place last weekend.
"Now that the show is finished I'll be able to get on properly with training. I've joined walking groups and I'll be taking on treks up and down peaks across Wales, the Lake District and the south Shropshire hills," added Kate.
Kate is looking for any businesses that would be interested in sponsoring her walk to boost her fundraising. If any businesses would like to sponsor Kate, contact her on 07515518594 or email: katherinel.macdonald@hotmail.co.uk
