THE New Saints have made Stockport County wingman Ryan Fraughan their first signing of the summer after they got their man following his successful loan spell.
Fraughan, the Welsh Premier League Player of the Month for April, came to Oswestry in January and impressed during the title run in as he frightened defences on both flanks to help TNS to the double, scoring five goals in the process.
The former Tranmere Rover was signed by Liverpool European Cup winner, Dieter Hamann during his spell in charge of Stockport, but after dropping down the pecking order following a change of management, Fraughan was loaned out to the Saints before putting pen to paper on a two-year deal last week.
TNS director of football, Craig Harrison, said: “I am delighted to have him here and it is fantastic to have signed a young player with so much potential.
“We didn’t know whether the deal would happen, but Ryan wants to play football and he enjoyed his loan spell here so we were always hopeful,” he added.
Harrison also revealed that most of last season’s squad have already signed new deals for the club, including Paul Harrison, Steve Evans, Phil Baker, Chris Marriot, Aeron Edwards, Nicky Ward, Scott Ruscoe, Alex Darlington and Alex Ramsay, while top scorer Greg Draper is midway through the two-year deal he penned last summer.
Scott Quigley has been offered a two-year deal following his three-year TNS scholarship and loan spell at Caersws, while long-term injured striker, Matty Williams, has also agreed new terms and will continue his rehabilitation following knee surgery.
The Saints’ boss said he is also hopeful that the young trio of Connell Rawlinson, Tom Roberts and Sam Finley will also sign after being offered new deals.
With the players re-grouping for pre-season training on June 1, Harrison has spoken of creating his own legacy at the club along with coach Carl Darlington.
He said he wants to build a side around the younger players starting to come into their own at Park Hall, and has ambitions to emulate The New Saints’ previous recent achievements in European competition.
The draw for the their first UEFA Champion's League qualification tie takes place on June 25.
