Alice Hughes - The funeral has taken place of Alice Hughes who lived at Middleton Road, Oswestry and died at Greenfields Nursing home, Whitchurch, Shropshire on 22nd December 2012 aged 85 years.
She leaves daughters Pat and Myra, sons-in-law Andy and John, grandchildren Keith, Debbie, Alison, Andrew and Vicky great grandchildren Callum, Charlotte, Abigail and Jasmin and Kallum.
Alice was born in Whitchurch where she spent her childhood with mum (Harriet) brother Sam and sisters Phyllis and Mary. Mum had many happy memories of this time and would often speak of her days there. During this period the family were strong members of the local Methodist Church, where older brother Sam and Harriet were Sunday School teachers.
On moving to Oswestry as a young adult Alice met and married the late John Hughes, where they lived until the end of their days.
Alice was perhaps better known for her 30 years plus at Astons furniture store, where she made many friends both colleagues and customers, some of whom she was still in touch with up until recent times.
Sadly Alice had many health issues and 2 years ago was diagnosed with early onset of Dementia. Despite all, she never complained and always remained cheerful and caring. We shall always miss her smiling and welcoming demeanour
The funeral service was held at the Methodist Church, Oswestry and was conducted by Rev. Heather Wilson.
Burial was at Oswestry Cemetery. Grandsons Keith and Andrew were bearers together with Simon, Carl and Mark.
Pat and Myra would like to thank family and friends who attended the funeral service and for the many cards, flowers and letters received. Family would like to thank the Rev. Heather Wilson for her heart felt service and to grandson Keith for his warm tribute to nan.
Many thanks to Allenby Douglas team for the excellent care given to Alice whilst at home. Also to Dr. Green from Caxton Surgery for her un tiring support
Thanks to Greenfields Nursing Home especially to Karen and her team who improved mum's quality of life hugely during the very short time she had with them.
Finally to David Davies and Sons for their guidance and support.
