A DEVELOPMENT built in Ellesmere by Shropshire Council’s in-house company has been completed, it has announced.

Ellesmere Wharf’s 23 homes, built by Shropshire Council’s wholly-owned housebuilding company Cornovii Developments Limited, are now completed, with six left up for grabs.

The news was welcomed by Geoff Elner, a councillor on both Ellesmere town and Shropshire councils, and praised Cornovii’s efforts.

He said: “There is a broad range of home styles at Ellesmere Wharf and that provides an opportunity for a real community to develop and grow as more of the homes are occupied.

“This impressive development, built in a much sought after location, is an excellent example of Shropshire Council’s initiative to help regenerate and sustain communities and will help to support people to be able to live close to their families and friends.

“Cornovii Developments Limited’s pledge to provide competitively priced homes for local families will achieve its goal in Ellesmere.

“And offering these homes to people with a local connection to the town is a most welcome opportunity for families to set up their own home within the heart of our community.”

The final plots at the development are set to be released for sale and in keeping with Cornovii Developments Limited’s pledge to provide competitively priced homes for local people, there is a two-week window of opportunity for people who have already registered their interest in the development to act.

Shropshire Council, working in partnership with One Public Estate, has secured £544,507 from the Government Brownfield Release Fund to develop on the land, which is classed as brownfield.

Derek Humphreys, chairman of Cornovii Developments Limited, said: “As a Shropshire housing developer we are committed to addressing the housing shortage by building sustainable homes across the county and improving the lives of th residents.

“As well as revitalising a long-term derelict brownfield site, Ellesmere Wharf is bringing much-needed affordable, quality homes to the town and supporting the local economy.

“We are delighted to see the construction completed at the development.”

To mark the completion partners local Shropshire Councillors, town councillors and officers were invited to tour the development and to view the homes available.
