AN OSWESTRY police cadet is celebrating after he was given a prestigious ‘Young Citizen’ award by the High Sheriff of Shropshire.

Alfie Wrigley, from Oswestry, was presented the award at the High Sheriff of Shropshire's Outstanding Young Citizen Award ceremony.

The event, hosted by the Shrewsbury Colleges Group, saw more than 50 young people from across Shropshire and Telford nominated for their efforts in supporting others, charity work, and good work within the community.

Alfie was nominated by PC Katie Le'Clere, who is no stranger to awards after she was honoured for same a man’s life in Ellesmere in 2019.

PC Le’Clere was full of praise for the work carried out by Alfie.

"Alfie is one of our longest-serving Police Cadets and has completed almost two-and-a-half years of service,” she said.

“He is always one of the first cadets to sign himself up for an event and will put his name forward for everything.

“Alfie also mentors and supports new cadets.

"At Christmas we carried out an operation where we packed 200 gifts for elderly and vulnerable people.

“We attended a hospital ward as part of this initiative to deliver the gifts.

Alfie received his award from the High Sheriff of Shropshire, Mandy Thorn MBE DL while PC Le’Clere was also present to see er young charge pick up the award.
