Weather warning issued for ice overnight in Shropshire

The warning is the second in as many days as the Met Office warns of severe icy conditions again this evening (December 3).

The Met Office are warning that "icy patches are likely to develop this evening and overnight leading to difficult travel conditions".

They have said that the cold conditions will result in "some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths" and that his could lead  to "some injuries from slips and falls on icy surface".

The Met Office are advising "it is safer not to drive in icy conditions, but if you absolutely must drive, keep yourself and others safe by looking well ahead for potential hazards and keep your speed down.

They added "Accelerating, braking, steering and changing gear as smoothly as possible to reduce the risk of a skid" and that "using a higher gear may be more appropriate to help grip on packed ice."

For people travelling by foot they advise residents "plan to leave the house five minutes earlier than normal" as "not needing to rush reduces your risk of accidents, slips and falls."

They add "if you need to make a journey on foot or by bike, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery" and to "take extra care when walking on untreated pavements and prepare for journeys by wearing footwear with a good grip".
