OTHER NEWS:

The River Severn has been suffering with high water levels this morning, with residents in Llandrinio being given the highest level alert of a severe flood warning - meaning there could be a risk to life.

This severe warning was given due to local flood defences "overtopping" and residents were  advised to "be ready to leave your home" and to "stay in a safe place with a means of escape".

The River Vyrnwy has also been experiencing very high levels but it woul appear conditions are beginning to ease with the river level in Llanymynech peaking this morning.

Residents in the Severn-Vyrnwy confluence are expected to have high water levels for most of the day and residents in Maesbrook and Melverley have been advised by Shropshire Council to "take action to protect yourself and your property and monitor local weather and river conditions. Avoid contact with, walking or driving through flood water. Consider activating any property flood protection products you may have."

MP for North Shropshire Helen Morgan, in a statement online, said: "There are flood warnings in place for the River Vyrnwy at Llanymynech, Maesbrook, and Melverley areas with river levels predicted to rise into Sunday morning.

"If you live in a flood-prone area please heed the alerts over the next few days and stay safe. If there is a life in danger call 999."
