The Met Office has warned Whitchurch and Oswestry residents about flooding and power cuts amid a yellow weather alert for thunder across much of the country.

The leading meteorological organisation issued the warning on its website where it said: "A few heavy showers and thunderstorms are possible, perhaps leading to some disruption."

The warning is in place for Saturday, September 9 from 2pm to 9pm and will affect Shropshire.

The Met Office states that residents in Shropshire can expect "spray and sudden flooding" on roads, making "difficult driving conditions and some road closures" possible.

It also revealed that there is a "slight chance that power cuts could occur" for some homes and businesses.

There is also a small chance that some properties could become flooded quickly, causing damage.
