OSWESTRY’S historic railway will be hitting the tracks once again as part of a national open weekend.
Visitors to Cambrian Heritage Railways will be able to access the popular tourist attraction for free as part of the Heritage Open Days festival of history and culture on Saturday and Sunday, September 8 and 9.
Andy Green, Cambrian Heritage Railways general manager, said he and his team were looking forward to opening up for the weekend.
He added: “We are delighted to play our part in the national Heritage Open Days festival this year.
“It’s a great opportunity for the visitors to come and take a look behind the scenes and witness aspects of our heritage line not normally open to the public.

“Every year the festival brings our volunteers and visitors together to celebrate our heritage, community and history.
“Stories are told, traditions explored, and history of our railway brought to life.”
There will be an opportunity to experience being a guard on the old Cambrian route with a ride in a brake van hauled by one of the diesel shunters.
The journey will be along the short stretch of line from Llynclys Station, the home of the CHR’s Carriage and Wagon Department.
It is here that volunteers restore heritage rolling stock for use on the railways – Llynclys is currently closed to visitors except on event days.
A replacement bus service between Llynclys and Weston Wharf will provide visitors an opportunity to view the Victorian Goods Shed and station at the southern end of the route.
In Oswestry, the public will have free access to the Cambrian Railway Museum as well as the Oswestry South Signal box.
Cambrian Heritage Railways will be operating a normal timetable on these days between Oswestry and Weston Wharf with ticket prices and Information on our website.
