CHIRK AAA face a daunting challenge when they travel to runaway JD Cymru North leaders Colwyn Bay on Saturday.

The Colliers have lost only once in their last five games having revived their survival bid last month.

However a goalless draw at relegation rivals Penrhyncoch last weekend leaves the club still in the dogfight.

Coach Gary Jones insisted the weekend stalemate should be taken in context with the Colliers one point closer toward league safety.
Chirk head to the coast as massive underdogs on Saturday.

He said: “We are disappointed with the result at home but it was a good point in terms of our league position.”

Jones insisted the Colliers travelled to the league leaders with nothing to lose.

He said: “We travel to Colwyn Bay and will face a team in red hot form but we hope to be the team to end that.

“Our lads are playing well, with only one loss in the last five matches, so we’ll look to frustrate the league leaders.”

OTHER NEWS:

Llanrhaeadr maintain their own survival bid when they travel to Rhos Aelwyd on Saturday.

The villagers have enjoyed a fine February which has seen them climb clear of the Ardal North East League table with last week’s 4-2 win over Corwen enough to claim 11th position.

Manager Michael Barton said: "It's been a big turn around in fortunes since end of November. Picking up 20 point. It's given us a massive chance.

"The lads have given me and Callum everything in training and games and have the rewards for there efforts.

"Player availability has improved a lot as well as we were constantly changing goalkeeper and our back four. That has settled now which has obviously helped the situation.

"We also made the squad bigger in January which was also key as it was way to small.

"Rhos will be a tough game as they are flying high in the league but we go there with great confidence."
