AN OSWESTRY artist has unveiled his latest exhibition at the town's library.

Colin Rose, a retired art teacher, moved to Oswestry three years ago after a life full of travels around the country.

He loves the local art scene and has decided to put up his acrylic paintings in a less conventional place for people to see.

Colin said: "Some people might think that going to an art gallery is not for them, or that they should not have a view on it.

"So putting my work in the library gives people the opportunity to see the work, decide if they like it or not, and move along, and that is fine by me."

Twelve of Colin's painting can be seen at the library in Oswestry, in Arthur Street, until Friday, March 31.

He has had his paintings on display in art galleries in the town such as the Willow Gallery.

OTHER NEWS:

Colin said: "I like to say some of my work is semi-abstract, but the paintings displayed at the library are definitely more traditional landscape."

Colin is an avid walker and he takes a lot of his inspiration from his hikes.

His work is based on sketchbook drawings and photographs taken and created during walks in a variety of places including Shropshire, Cheshire and the Lake District.

"I love walking, and Shropshire is so beautiful, I like to include landscapes in my work from different angles," he said.

Colin trained and worked as a graphic designer and illustrator before becoming an art teacher.

His art techniques include pencil, paint, watercolour and mixed media.

He said: "I sometimes include text in the work and different little hidden symbols.

"The exploration of colour, texture and form is central to my practice."
