An Oswestry school student has enjoyed a successful 2018, securing a motocross championship.
Sam Hughes, who is in Year 9, started riding a motocross bike in 2015 by practicing around nearby tracks before competing in events around the area.
In the past three years he has honed his motocross skills and this year all the hours of practising paid off.
Sam was keen to compete in the 2018 Michelin Championship WOR Events X Country Enduro Series for 12-13 year olds.
He raced all season competing in gruelling 90-minute races only stopping for a quick bike refuel and water.
At the end of the season Sam came away with five wins to take the overall Michelin Championship win, scoring 100 points –12 ahead of his nearest competitor.
Sam then ended his season with another amazing win – Steve Ireland's 2018 Tough Ones Little Brother, WOR Extremism Enduro held on October 8 at Nantmawr Quarry.
Following on from this he also had an eventful weekend at his first ever Hawkstone Park MX cross country youth race finishing an amazing fifth; a great achievement on such a gruelling track.
Sam will now take part in the Winter series and is look forward to moving up from kids into juniors next year.
